Motion Comic - Jack & The Beanstalk
Fairytale Pages

My fariytale pages were drawn traditionally using inking, I used a G-nib for the stronger lines and a Maru-nib for finer details, mainly the backgrounds. I'd use a rage of pigment liners sizes ranging from 0.1 - 0.7, this was to create a variation of liners.
Once inked, I scanned and edited my pages using Photoshop. I used a variety of greytones and used the 'colour halftone' tool to give it a more 'comic' effect.
The parts of my pages that I wanted to animate were drawn seperatley from the backgrounds. Using Photoshop, I arranged the seperate images into place of my page where they were to be animated.
Fairytale Research

Initial sketches for Jack and the beanstalk. I began with charcter designs for Jack, the decided on a more mature art style. An abreviation of the story made it easier to part the story into three ways in the team, once our sections were decided I began on concept sketches of scenes that I wanted to include within the story, practicing with dynamic angles and poses.
During the group discussion, we decided on the locations that wouldbe involved in the story, so brainstormed an inventory of items (e.g beds, stands, windows) in the backgrounds/ rooms. This makes it a benefitial reference to visualise what would be where in the background panel shots.
Once brainstorming was complete, I worked on the storyboards.
